LAKE DISTRICT CABIN
Location: Lake District

Scope: Full interior redesign (concept to visualisation)
Type: Private holiday cabin

Tucked against the still waters of the Lake District, this one-bedroom stone cabin was reimagined as a modern retreat for a couple in their early thirties and their dog — a home away from home that balances intimacy and architectural romance. The full redesign sought to merge the spirit of an English hideaway with the tactile warmth of a contemporary cabin, drawing inspiration from Gothic vernacular forms such as the canopy bed, minstrels’ gallery, and a centrally anchored hearth.
Within its compact footprint, every inch was considered. A palette of natural materials — burl wood, limewashed plaster, local stone, and oak — connects the interior to its surroundings, while deep tones and soft textures lend the home a grounded calm. Bespoke details, like the suspended bed drapery and open gallery netting above the living space, add sculptural rhythm and a sense of play.
Designed entirely at a distance, the project embodies the precision and trust central to Galatea’s process. The result is a lakeside refuge that feels timeless, tactile, and unmistakably personal — a quiet dialogue between tradition, craftsmanship, and modern life.
